DAY 4 RECAP 2025 FISU WINTER WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES
University of Victoria’s Quinn Dawson became the first Canadian athlete to stand on a podium at the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games, earning a bronze in Men’s Moguls.
MOGULS:
Quinn Dawson (University of Victoria) registered a 77.35 in the Men’s Moguls, good for a bronze medal. The medal is the first of the 2025 Games. Dawson will compete again, on Wednesday, in the Dual Moguls.
“I’m really happy,” said Dawson when asked about taking home the bronze. “I didn’t have a lot of expectations heading into this event, just to have fun, so to end on the podium is super amazing. I’m just really happy to do it on a team with my friends.”
MIXED CURLING:
After a disappointing setback in a semifinal loss to Germany, the team of Jessica Zheng (University of Waterloo) and Victor Pietrangelo (Brock University) proved their mettle with a resounding victory in the bronze medal game. They topped Italy by a 9-3 score, earning Canada’s second medal of the Games.
“It was sheer joy and relief, for all the hard work we have done over the years,” said Zheng. “We have played mixed doubles for seven or eight years, so everything has paid off. It is awesome to be on the podium.”
“It is amazing. It is always good to finish with a win,” remarked Pietrangelo, after the victory. “If you told me five years that we would be standing on the podium of an international competition, I wouldn’t have believed you. It is unreal.”
SNOWBOARD CROSS:
Noah Royz (University of Ottawa) put forward a terrific performance, garnering a 7th place finish in the Snowboard Cross event. Despite an unfortunate collision with another snowboarder in the semifinals, Royz managed to finish third in the small final.
