Jamir Walker had a breakout season for the Rams in 2010, as the third-year cornerback became the first Canada West player since 1986 to register three interception return touchdowns in a single season.
Set to enter his fourth season of CIS eligibility, Walker is the University of Regina's all-time career leader in both interception return touchdowns (3) and average yards per punt return (17.1) and is tied with Steve Ryan for the school lead with nine career picks. He will be eligible to be selected in the 2012 CFL Canadian Draft.
"Jamir is a very instinctive and gifted athlete," Rams head coach Frank McCrystal said. "He has the ability to turn a game around from the defensive back position and is very much an impact player on special teams as well."
Walker, who was named a CIS First-Team All-Canadian and a Canada West all-star last season, will anchor a Rams defensive backfield that is expected to lose just one starter (safety Matt Yausie). Walker, Steve Famulak, Mike Kerr, Kirby Kezama, and Daniel Knaus are all returning starters that combined to help the Rams finish first in the conference in passing yards allowed (2001) and second in Canada West with 11 interceptions.
A product of Sheldon-Williams Collegiate in Regina, Walker has started 18 games consecutive games at cornerback for the Rams including two postseason contests. He has led the team in interceptions in each of the previous two seasons and also led Canada West with five picks during the 2010 campaign.
Walker (5-11, 181 lbs.) is enrolled in Campion College's Bachelor of Arts program at the University of Regina.
