The University of New Brunswick used a fast start and balanced offence to defeat the Queen's Gaels 5-2 in the fourth quarterfinal of the 2026 University Cup on Friday night at the Scotiabank Centre.
The No. 2 seed UNB set the tone early, outshooting Queen's 20-7 in the opening period and jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Cody Morgan opened the scoring five minutes in, finishing a play set up by Cole Huckins, before Huckins doubled the lead on the power play later in the frame.
UNB extended its advantage in the second period when Camaryn Baber made it 3-0, but the Gaels responded quickly as Aidan Castle got Queen's on the board just 40 seconds later to keep the game within reach.
Queen's continued to push in the third, cutting the deficit to 3-2 on a goal by Sebbie Johnson midway through the period. However, the AUS champions answered decisively, with Jax Dubois restoring the two-goal cushion before Michael Petizian added an insurance marker less than two minutes later to seal the win.
UNB finished with a commanding 38-21 edge in shots and controlled the faceoff circle, limiting Queen's offensive opportunities for much of the night. Goaltender Rémi Delafontaine made 19 saves to earn the victory, while Tanner Wickware stopped 33 shots in a strong effort for the Gaels.
With the win, UNB improves to 26-9-2 (20-8-2 AUS) and advances to Saturday's second semifinal, where they will face the UQTR Patriotes at 7 p.m. Atlantic. Queen's sees its season come to an end with a 20-16-2 record (14-13-1 OUA).
