The Montréal Carabins scored four unanswered goals — including two into an empty net — to defeat the Concordia Stingers 5-2 and capture the Golden Path Trophy on Sunday at the 2026 Miller Waste U SPORTS Women’s Hockey Championship at Woolwich Memorial Centre.
The victory marks Montréal’s third national title in program history, following championships in 2013 and 2016. It also extends Québec’s recent dominance, with a team from the province winning for the third consecutive year and for the fourth time in the past five seasons.
Trailing 2-1 after the opening period, the Carabins responded with a composed effort, tying the game in the second before pulling away in the third.
Tournament MVP Maude Desroches was the difference, turning aside 40 shots as Concordia outshot Montréal 42-35. The Carabins goaltender, who was also named her team’s player of the game, stood tall as the Stingers pushed for an equalizer late.
Montréal opened the scoring just 13 seconds into the contest when Audrey-Anne Veillette struck early. Concordia answered late in the period, as Audrey Clavette tied the game at 18:53 before Émilie Lavoie gave the Stingers a 2-1 lead just 26 seconds later.
The Carabins regrouped in the second period and found the equalizer at 15:46, when Ann-Sophie Bédard finished off a sustained push to make it 2-2 heading into the third.
Jade Picard provided the turning point midway through the final frame, scoring at 15:28 to give Montréal its first lead since the opening minute.
Concordia pressed for the equalizer, generating several quality chances, but could not solve Desroches.
Montréal sealed the outcome in the final minutes, with Catherine Proulx and Laurie-Anne Ethier scoring into an empty net to put the game out of reach.
Jessymaude Drapeau was named Concordia’s player of the game, while goaltender Jordyn Verbeek made 30 saves in the loss.
The next U SPORTS Women’s Hockey Championship will be hosted by UNB in Fredericton, from March 25-28, 2027.
