Trinity Western University delivered a commanding performance in the first consolation semifinal of the 2024 BMO U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship, defeating the University of Victoria 3-0 on Friday at Wickwire Field. With this victory, Trinity Western improved to 11-5-3, while Victoria concluded its season at 9-5-0.
The match started strong for Trinity Western, with Mansha Sidhu scoring twice in the first half. In the 9th minute, she capitalized on a goalkeeping error, tapping the ball into the net after UVic’s keeper failed to handle it. Sidhu doubled the lead just before halftime, converting a pass from the front of the net, finishing with confidence.
In the second half, Trinity Western added to their tally when a corner kick resulted in an own goal by Victoria in the 67th minute. Spartans goalkeeper Yasmine Pahal made three key saves to secure the shutout.
Victoria struggled to generate offense, managing only four shots, with Kayley Lidstone recording four saves in goal.
With the win, Trinity Western advances to the fifth-place game, scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. Atlantic. Victoria, the CW silver medallists concludes their season in a tie for seventh place.
